“The gender divide in politics is a sleeper issue in Australia, with men and women — particularly young people — moving apart in profound and polarising ways, as opinions of the upcoming US election show.

New polling conducted by pollsters Talbot Mills Research has found Australians and New Zealanders would overwhelmingly support US Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in next week's election, with that support growing over the past few months of polling.

"Fifty per cent of Australians say they'd vote for Harris compared to 26 per cent who say they'd vote for Trump," says David Talbot, director Talbot Mills Research.

Support for Harris among Kiwis is identical at 50 per cent while support for Trump is a little lower than in Australia at 22 per cent.

Support is up significantly for Harris in Australia compared to Biden who received only 30 per cent support in July.

But a clear gender split emerges, with younger men in both Australia and NZ preferring Donald Trump to Harris, while support for Trump among young women is tiny.
